Internet domain registrar and web hosting company GoDaddy had reported the data breach to California authorities stating that hackers gained access to their SSH accounts which were used in their hosting environment.
On the report, Godaddy wrote-
For precaution steps, Godaddy said it has reset passwords hosting account login information to help prevent any potential unauthorized access. Moreover, the company also recommended all users to conduct an audit of your hosting account. The company would also provide impacted customers with a year of its Website Security Deluxe and Express Malware Removal service for free.
On the report, Godaddy wrote-
"The investigation found that an unauthorized individual had access to your login information used to connect to SSH on your hosting account. We have no evidence that any files were added or modified on your account. The unauthorized individual has been blocked from our systems, and we continue to investigate potential impact across our environment."Godaddy does mention that hackers only accessed to hosting accounts. The main GoDaddy.com customer account, and the information stored within the customer account, is safe and was not accessible by hackers.
